Ford must stop gutting Northern hospitals with ongoing cuts to health care

QUEEN’S PARK – Northern NDP MPPs are supporting the call from the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions (OCHU) to stop Doug Ford’s continued cuts to northern hospitals that will result in hundreds fewer health care workers to care for patients.

MPPs Jamie West (Sudbury), France Gélinas (Nickel Belt), Guy Bourgouin (Mushkegowuk-James Bay), Gilles Bisson (Timmins), John Vanthof (Timiskaming-Cochrane) and Michael Mantha (Algoma-Manitoulin), released the following statement Thursday:

“We thank the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions for speaking up and expressing their concern about the chronic underfunding of our hospitals.

Successive Conservative and Liberal governments have left the North behind and Doug Ford’s deep cuts will leave northerners and our families without the staff we need at our hospitals to take care of us, when we need them most.

Doug Ford must stop gutting our health care system. We join Ontario’s hospitals and health care workers in calling on Doug Ford to stop his cuts, and guarantee long-term funding for northern hospitals to allow them to hire more nurses and more front-line staff, instead of letting them go.”
